Dearborn First UMC invites you to
“POUND” THE PASTOR!
(AKA Welcome Pastor Suzy!)
SUNDAY, JULY 7
Expanded Coffee Hour Following worship (11:30 a.m.)
Welcome Center & Church Library
WHAT IS A POUNDING?
A pounding is a Christian tradition that can be traced back to at least the 19th century, whereby parishioners welcome a new pastor (and his or her family) by bringing a pound of food or other useful items to fill the pantry. During the “pounding”, the congregants also spend time getting to know the new pastor and helping him or her (or the whole family) acclimate to their new community.
THIS ARTICLE from UMC.org tells you more about this hospitable event.
